We All Choose Our Hard

I have really come to embrace the term, Choose Your Hard. We all make a lot of choices every day and many of those choices greatly impact our lives. We are choosing our hard. What is your hard? Are you Overweight? Do you have Diabetes, Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Prostate Issues, Kidney Problems or some other serious health issue? That’s Hard!

When it comes to health issues many people like to say it is genetic, I can’t help that I have this health issue. Or can you? Really think about it, do you have any control over your health issues? I have a friend that says her doctor is managing her health issues. She is overweight, has diabetes and a whole list of other problems. I have been trying to get her to understand it can be reversed through diet, but it is easier to let the doctors “manage” the diseases for her because then she doesn’t have to do anything! It makes me very sad because as I see it she is choosing a hard life with health issues.

Dr. Christopher taught people that to be healthy you need to eat what he called the Mucusless Diet. Today this is called eating Whole Foods Plant Based (WFPB) diet. There are so many people eating this way now, with lots of online support making it easier to find recipes and make the change. People are getting healthy! My husband and I are getting healthier than we have ever been! This diet change has been hard, but it is the hard we choose! We would rather make the hard change to eat different than most people, than to keep going down the hard path of disease!

Herbs for Blood Sugar Issues

I’ve known that I should be eating WFPB/Whole Foods Plant Based for many years. I’ve always been fairly close, but had foods that I had a hard time giving up. Cheese & yogurt were biggies for me. My husband and I quit eating all dairy products the first of the year. We still hung onto meat because like most people, it is hard to make a change. In March my husband and I had our blood work done and we had a wake-up call. Fortunately for us things weren’t real bad, because we eat a lot of the right foods. But right then and there I knew we had to make the big change.

It’s quite a chore coming up with new recipes, but fortunately there are so many people now eating WFPB. I’m happy that my husband has been on board, because he wants to be healthy too. We know way too many people that are very unhealthy and some have even died this year. It makes me sad because so many people aren’t willing to change their diet. I’m hoping that people will notice the change in us and ask for help!

In July just about everything in my blood work was in the normal range except my blood sugar is still too high! My fasting blood sugar was 104 and my A1c was 5.8. I made a lot of progress since March and I’m close to normal and looking forward to seeing how things are the first of the year. In the mean-time along with diet change I am taking the Pancreas Formula.

Why you should use cleansing herbs

Adrenal Fatigue & Stress Problems

This has been a very stressful year for our world, there has been so much going on that people are just not handling life very well at all. Adrenal problems/stress can affect your immune system, and we all need our immune systems to be working with the Covid 19 Virus still circulating.

I re-read Dr. Christopher’s information about Adrenal problems, and I also read what others wrote about Adrenal fatigue. I had a real DUH moment reading all of this information and realizing that Adrenal fatigue/burnout is the root cause of my issues. I starting taking Dr. Christopher's Adrenal Formula and am amazed at the difference I feel. Things that would normally cause me lots of stress in the past were handled way better than ever before. It kicked in quickly and I like how I feel and am able to handle stress without feeling all distressed. How are you doing emotionally?

I have been pretty open over the years that I struggle at times with anxiety and had a few bad weeks/months with depression. I have also dealt with SAD/seasonal affective disorder for most of my life. I have done fairly well with the SAD the last two years, until about the end of February when I’m just so done with the cold weather and shortened days. This year was no different, and now with the Covid 19 restrictions it just added to the stress for me.

I went in for my “free” physical and got my blood work done, and at that time my blood pressure was quite high. I have had periods of high blood pressure, and considering this appointment was early in March in the midst of my SAD, and the increasing reports of the Coronavirus, and other personal stresses, I would say I was pretty stressed out.

When the blood tests came back the problem areas were mostly stress related. On the day of my first appointment with the doctor I realized that I hadn’t been taking my Relax-Eze and Mindtrac because back in December I was feeling so good. I now understand that I was feeling good because I was taking those two great formulas.

I realized that with the stress related high blood pressure, I needed a little help with that! I added Dr. Christopher’s Blood Circ formula that helps to equalize blood pressure. It took about two weeks for things to get to a better place, and when I gave blood last week my blood pressure was back to normal 120/80. Herbal remedies for Flu & Coronavirus

Western Botanicals has some great formulas including an anti-plague formula called Immu-Defense - available in syrup and capsules. This is the virus killing formula that will help with the flu and Coronavirus that is going around. Capsules are great for people that can’t handle the taste of the syrup, take it as a preventative, and in higher doses when sick.

Suggested supply as a minimum is one 16 oz. bottle of syrup per person in the household. Three bottles of capsules per person if you can't handle the syrup. We have both, since my husband can't handle the syrup. Dr Christopher's Super Garlic Immune Formula is the Anti Plague formula. We have it in stock, I like to plan on at least one 16 oz. bottle per person.

For those of you that like to make your own herbals and stretch your money like I do, I’ll share with you how to make Dr. Christopher’s famous Anti-Plague. Be sure to save your brown bottles, to remove the labels use a hair dryer to heat the label and peel it off. Making Anti-Plague is a big project, but once you do it you realize if you can make Anti-Plague you can make anything!

Dr. Christopher’s Liquid Anti-Plague Formula

Using 4 oz. as a part will make about a gallon. If you are buying one Anti-Plague kit it uses 4 oz. as a part. Plan on the below, buy the bigger bags if you are going to make a bigger batch:

8 parts apple cider vinegar - 32 oz.
5 parts glycerine - 20 oz.
5 parts honey - 20 oz.
2 parts garlic juice, fresh - 8 oz
2 parts comfrey root concentrate, use fresh root for best results* - 8 oz.
1 part wormwood concentrate - 4 oz.
1 part lobelia leaf concentrate - 4 oz.
1 part marshmallow root concentrate - 4 oz.
1 part white oak bark concentrate - 4 oz.
1 part black walnut hull concentrate - 4 oz.
1 part mullein leaf concentrate - 4 oz.
1 part scullcap leaf concentrate - 4 oz.
1 part uva ursi, hydrangea or gravel root concentrate - 4 oz.

*if using fresh comfrey use a bit more to come up with the same concentration as the dried. So in the above I would use about 12 oz or so to make up for the water content in the fresh comfrey.

I start on Monday making the garlic/apple cider vinegar and finish up on Saturday with combining everything.

    First make the garlic juice. I can get 8 oz. of garlic juice out of a pound of garlic when using my Green Star Juicer. Other juicers will likely need more garlic to get that much juice. Add garlic juice and pulp to the vinegar and shake 2-3 times a day for 4 - 5 days to get the rest of the goodness out of the pulp. Note that it often turns green looking, I don’t know why but most people tell me this happens. With all the Anti-Plague I have used over the years it hasn’t killed me!

     If you don’t have a juicer use this alternative method: for the example of parts above amount use 2 1/2 lbs. of garlic - peel, blend in blender with vinegar (do not liquify). Let set for 4 - 5 days, shaking several times per day.

To make the concentrates:

     Each concentrate should be made individually. Use only stainless steel or glass pots. Start by soaking the herb in enough distilled water to cover it for four hours and over- night if it is a root. After soaking add more distilled water so that the total added equals 16 oz. water per 4 oz. of herb. Mullein is quite fluffy and you will end up adding a lot more water to it, and after the soaking you may need to add more water to some of the herbs as well, since it will have soaked it up. This is ok, just keep following the directions.

The recipe calls for fresh comfrey, when I have used the dried bulk comfrey, they did not scrape off the outer root before drying. This then becomes a weird mess once you combine the comfrey with the other herb concentrates. Just not worth it! Find someone with some root they will share with you. Scraping the root is part of the fun! Still soak it overnight since it is a root.

    Simmer the herbs on very low heat in a covered pan or double boiler for thirty minutes. Let cool for 30 minutes and then strain the liquid into a clean pan, squeezing all of the liquid out of the herb. I like to use a potato ricer for this. Next put the liquid into a double boiler or on very low heat uncovered and simmer down to one fourth of the original volume (4 oz. if that is the portion you started with). Go ahead and add a bit of distilled water if you reduced it too far.

     Only after all the ingredients have been prepared should the liquids be mixed. It takes me 2 days to get the concentrates made. I do some on Thursday and the others on Friday, then I refrigerate the concentrates until they are ready to mix. Be sure they are all the same temperature before combining. Combine the herbs first, if you do get some clumping going on after adding the comfrey, then blend it in a vitamix and strain well. Add the garlic and vinegar mixture, glycerine and honey last.

     On Saturday I squeeze out the garlic from the vinegar, make sure there is a total of 40 oz., if not then add more apple cider vinegar to make bring it up to 40 oz. combined ACV/garlic juice. Add the honey, glycerine and liquid herbs to the ACV/garlic juice and mix well. Bottle and label and keep in a cool place. I keep mine in the back of the fridge so they are out of the way but at a controlled temperature. Dr. Christopher talks about it being good for ten years or more and I have used ten year old Anti-Plague and it works! Now you know how to make it!

I have found that when I get sick I need a full 16 oz. bottle to get well. I like to keep at least one 16 oz. bottle per person on hand.

Our last newsletter talked about Elderberry being great for killing virus bugs as well, I have been using it daily and haven't been sick all winter. If we run out of the anti-plague formulas, get some Elderberry Extract!

What can we help you with?

I have had several people call lately with the same problem, needing a large amount of a single herb extract, but feeling it was too expensive to buy so many bottles of 4 oz. extract.

The first customer needed a large amount of Western Botanicals Garlic extract. I always suggest making it yourself when you need that much. She bought two 4 ounce bottles to get her through until her batch would be ready. I told her I would use fresh garlic with 100 proof Vodka. She called a few weeks later to say that she was not able to make it due to health reasons, and asked how can she get half a gallon from us for a reasonable price. She was hoping for two 32 ounce bottles, and I had to explain that they are too heavy for shipping. I was able to get very good pricing for her on 16 oz. bottles and she was thrilled!

The second customer needed a large amount of a single extract as well. When I asked if he was interested in making it himself, he asked how. I emailed him the instructions and he emailed back saying, “I wish someone had told me this ten years ago!” I’m happy to help people save money when I can. I know how hard it is when you need to get the money to stretch!

I suggest for people to make their own extract when they are going through a lot of it. Most often they don’t want to, which works too, because we need the orders! We are here for you if you have a special need, just let us know and we’ll try to help you with it!

This week I am making a batch of Elderberry extract. Elderberry extract is very popular this time of year. In a google search it states: “Elderberry extract binds to the tiny spikes on a virus protein that are used to pierce and invade healthy cells and destroys them so that the virus is ineffective.” That’s what we have going on right now, lots of virus’ making people sick. This simple single herb extract is one I have been taking daily and so far I have avoided getting what has been going around.

The best price we have is for Dr. Christopher’s Elderberry Extract, 2 oz. bottle for $14.44. The directions are to take 3 droppersful three times a day or as directed by your health care professional. Because I’m not sick I’m just taking a dropperful once a day. If I had been exposed to sick people or could feel something coming on I would up it to the recommended dosage listed on the bottle. Happily so far so good, I'm staying healthy!

Pictured above right is 16 oz. Western Botanicals bulk Elderberry and a bottle of Vodka, I use 80 proof for dried herbs and the 100 proof if the herbs are fresh. I poured the dried Elderberries and the bottle of vodka into the one gallon jar, added the rest of a bottle of Vodka that I had bringing it up to about 64 oz of Vodka. The liquid immediately turned purple. I’m shaking it up about three times a day and it will be ready in about two weeks. Extracts last many years when stored in a cool dark place, so we’ll have this to use for quite a few years! Below are the complete instructions for making an extract.

How to make an Alcohol Extract

Herbal Preparations and Natural Therapies, Debra Nuzzi St. Claire recommends using 100 proof vodka, which is readily available and is equal to the required solution of 50 percent alcohol and 50 percent water. Use four ounces of herb to one pint of alcohol. The herb should be finely cut or powdered, placed in a clean glass jar.

After pouring the alcohol over the herb, the jar is tightly covered. Shake the jar for a minute or two each day. At the end of two weeks, strain the tincture through cheesecloth, a jelly bag, or a coffee filter. If you happen to have a wine press, you could use that. "It is best to put up one's tincture on the new moon and strain it off on the full moon so that the drawing power of the waxing moon will help extract the herbal properties". Store herbal tinctures in dark glass bottles away from heat and light.

Thank you for your orders!

As we start the new year we just want to say thank you. Our customers are the reason why Herbs First is here! Last year was a bit rough and to tell you the truth we seriously considered closing down. I’ve spent more than 22 years dedicated to helping our customers. Many of you have been with us for much of that time! A smile always comes to my face when I see an order from a long-time customer! Thank you so much!

I love talking to customers. I love sending you links that help you with your health issues. I love talking to you on the phone and helping you with your needs. I have been able to help many people figure out the best way to get the products that will help them. I love walking you through making Anti Plague, extracts and ointments, which is pretty scary for a first timer! A great day for me is when I’m talking to customers and taking orders. I feel needed and fulfilled and that makes me happy!

We have the best support team ever. Hollie has been with us for 16 years, works from home to process the orders and sends them over to the warehouse. She emails the tracking and attends to order issues which seldom ever happens! She is a single mom of two special needs children. Ben is 17, has Asperger’s Syndrome and is a junior at Spectrum Academy High School, which is a school for children with autism. Hollie’s daughter Elaina just turned 12 years old, and was born with a congenital heart defect and a chromosomal deletion (22q11.2 - DiGeorge Syndrome) that has required multiple surgeries and procedures. Elaina spends a lot of time in the hospital due to her weak immune system and multiple surgeries. Working for Herbs First from home has allowed Hollie to continue to support her family without worrying about missing work.

Jeff is our one and only warehouse guy that keeps the warehouse running. He packs and ships your orders to the greatest of perfection! We have had many people email us saying how wonderfully packed their orders are! He rarely makes a mistake and we hardly ever have any breakage, all due to his skills! We appreciate Jeff so much and he has been our “guy” for 19 years! His wife Jamie struggles with health issues and he often will get the orders out early and head for home to be with her. We appreciate all he does for us and our customers!

My husband Don sends out the newsletters as well as helping me with technical issues on the web-site. He has been a great support for me running this business for over 22 years! Did you know that Herbs First was the first website to offer the Dr. Christopher products on the internet? It’s true, we were here even before Dr. Christopher’s were! It all started because I was using their products and noticed how amazing they are and wanted to be able to help people with them!
