Natural Remedies for Food Poisoning

Essential Oils are 33% off right now. The Garden Essence Essential Oil line that we carry are the highest quality available. Compare their quality to the network marketed oils, you get the same quality at an affordable price because you aren’t paying multiple levels of people making money off of what you buy.

I consider myself a student, because there is so much to learn about how to keep our bodies healthy, and every day I learn something new.  Friends often say to me,  you are always trying to be healthy, like that is a bad thing. What is the alternative to always trying to be healthy??  That isn’t a path I want to take!  I find it better to work on being the healthiest I can be, that includes the food I eat and the herbs I ingest, and the essential oils I use, etc.

Digestion    Over the weekend I put the Digestion Blend Essential Oil to good use.  I had scallops for lunch on Sunday and a few hours later I was feeling a little off.  My whole stomach and guts just hurt!  I took some Gas-Eze and went and rubbed the Digestion Oil all over my entire abdomen.  I laid down and after about half an hour I was feeling good enough to get up and watch TV.

The next morning I woke up feeling ok, so exercised and took my herbs.  I worked on a few things and then was going to take a shower when the pain hit me in my gut again.  I decided that I had better use the Activated Charcoal to help absorb whatever poison might still be in me.  I couldn’t find any, but still had a bit in my travel kit, so took that and put the Digestion Blend all over my abdomen again.  Within 5 minutes I was feeling relieved of the pain and was able to take my shower and go on with my day. I used the Digestion Blend again as I went to bed that night and didn’t have a problem with it again.  I sure like having the right remedy when something happens!

X-Plague/Glandular combo    Another favorite essential oil blend is the X-Plague which is very useful during cold season.  I like to add it to a bottle of Glandular Massage Oil - 60 drops in the 2 oz. bottle.  We use this liberally on our neck and feet when we have been exposed to sick people or feel like we have a cold coming on.  This is a great combo and you get a lot of use out of it for the money.  The little roller bottles are wonderful for giving everyone their own supply of this blend which makes it very portable in a pocket or purse.

Natural Health is easy and affordable.  I like to learn by trying new things to see how they work on me and then I share it with others.  I am proactive when it comes to my health and the health of my family.  Having herbs and oils on hand makes it easy for me to treat just about any problem that we are faced with.

Read the last chapter of An Herbal Legacy of Courage and learn about how Dr. Christopher lost his license to practice medicine.  He did far more to help people when he began teaching people how to use the herbs to heal themselves.  His legacy lives on as we all continue to use his great formulas to help ourselves and our families.

Herbs for Travel

herb cabinet It feels good to know that I can take care of my family’s health needs when we are home, but how do I get this herb cabinet into my suitcase when I am traveling?  Quite a dilemma. For several years I took a small duffle bag full of the bottles of herbs that I hoped would cover us in any situation, but after a few years it got to be too much and I had to find a way to consolidate things.

travel herbsI finally came up with using the tiny bags where I can cram 25 capsules into each bag and then put them all into a quart sized ziplock bag.  It has worked well and I have continued to use this method for the last five years.

Here is what I take on vacation:

Adrenal Formula - wow, is this the best ever formula for a vacation, so amazing for jet lag!  We used this when we went to Hawaii and no problem whatsoever with the time change.  I would never go on vacation without this formula.

Activated Charcoal - this one will be a lifesaver if you have the unfortunate situation of food poisoning.  I also take a small homeopathic kit and use Arsenicum for this problem.

Anti-Plague - You never know when you might come down with something, no-one wants to be sick on vacation.

Blood Circulation Formula - this is the blood pressure formula and I tend to get stressed out sometimes and this is the one I need.

Cayenne - Dr. Christopher’s favorite, always have this one on hand in case of bleeding, heart attack, or stroke.  Open a few capsules and mix in warm water and drink it down.  My Grandma felt like she was having a heart attack one day and half an hour after giving her the cayenne she said she felt like it never happened.  This one is truly a lifesaver.

Complete Tissue and Bone Formula - one of my favorite formulas, it can heal sprained ankles, or just sore feet from all the extra walking.  Hopefully nothing big happens, you can go through a lot of capsules quickly when you need them. Depending on the trip I may opt to take a whole bottle just to be safe.

Cranberry Buchu - I tend to have bladder infection problems when I don’t have my alkaline water to drink.  We usually take about three gallons of water with us when we are driving, but on plane trips I am out of luck.  It only takes a few days off the alkaline water for my bladder to let me know that it isn’t happy.  These little guys get me through until I get home to my water.

Gas-Eze or Slippery Elm- great for gas and intestinal upsets.

Ginger - wow, does this ever work for airsickness or carsickness.  I take it about 15 minutes before the flight takes off and I am fine.  I will take it as we get into the car if we are going up a windy road and no sickness at all. It doesn’t put me to sleep like dramamine does!!

Headache Formula - long days in the sun will get to me at times, so it is good to have something in case of a headache!

Immucalm - if it is allergy season I take a full bottle, but the rest of the year a little bag is enough.  Great for calming down allergic reactions - food related or airborne.

Immune System Formula or Infection Formula - at least one of these along with the Anti-Plague will keep us covered in case of any illness, we take it at the first sign of illness before it ever has time to develop into a problem.

Joint - for those occasional flare-ups of arthritis that happen when not quite eating my regular diet or when over walking affects my knees.

Kava Kava - a favorite night time remedy to calm overworked muscles, which often happens when vacationing.  Very relaxing and I usually wake up feeling great.  If muscles are still an issue I use the Deep Heat Ointment.

Kidney Formula - I take this with the Cranberry Buchu if I have a bladder infection problem.

Lower Bowel Formula - a must for traveling, eating on vacation changes the system a bit and the Lower Bowel will keep things moving.

Lung and Bronchial - I have weak lungs, so in case a bug attempts to get me, or with hay fever where I sometimes get a cough this works great!

Mindtrac - for times of stress, and travel can be stressful. I take this one at night if my brain just won’t turn off.  We use the formula a lot at our house.

Relax-Eze - can be taken with the Mindtrac if something more is needed for stress.  Amazing for nerve pain.  Also a good sleep remedy.

Sinus Allergy - I take a big bottle of this if it is allergy season, but off season a little bag will get us through if we need it.

Besides all of the above I fill the little bags with a morning and evening herbs that each person needs to take daily. We also always take a bottle of Complete Tissue and Bone Ointment as well as the Deep Heat Ointment with us.

I bring Stings and Bites ointment if we are going to be out in nature.  For sunburn Essential Skin Care Cream is wonderful, I always have it with me since it is my lotion of choice.  I also take Echinacea extract which is useful in case of poisonous bites of any kind where you would need to get to the hospital.  It will help bring your immune system up to fight off the poison until you can get help.  Take several squirts every 10 minutes or even more often than that if needed as you make your way to the hospital.

When packing for a trip the herbs are always the first thing I prepare.  I make sure the little bags are full and get the family’s personal herbs together. I never want to have some problem crop up that I can’t handle.

Food Poisoning

We had a family reunion and were the second group to arrive at the beach house that we had rented. My brother and family arrived there first and I saw his whole family, but he was nowhere to be found. I asked his wife where he was and she told me that three days earlier he had eaten at the famous “Golden Arches” restaurant and gotten very sick within 20 minutes of eating his food. For three days he had tried over the counter drugs for nausea and diarrhea but was still feeling terrible. I told her that I thought I had something that would help and went to my handy bag of herbs. I had Slippery Elm which is great for diarrhea, and Ginger which works well for nausea. I gave her the little packets which hold about 25 capsules and said that I would take the Slippery Elm every half hour until I was feeling better and Ginger every 2 - 3 hours. My brother showed his face a few hours later and said that he was feeling much better and was fine the rest of the week long reunion.

Food poisoning is most commonly a reaction to toxins produced by bacteria or other toxins. Bacteria thrive in food that is not prepared hygienically, that is kept out of refrigeration for too long, or that is not thoroughly cooked. Symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach cramps, and generally start 4 - 36 hours after eating contaminated food and often can last several days to two weeks. The reaction is so similar to the flu that it is often mistaken for the flu.

Slippery Elm is the herb of choice for any gastrointestinal disturbances including food poisoning. It is very calming and soothing to the intestinal tract and will often stop the diarrhea with a few doses. I have used it when I have been emotionally upset which often causes an acidic condition in the body which manifests itself with heart burn all the way through my system and ending in burning diarrhea. I mix the powder in with water and take it every half hour and within a few hours I will be back to normal. The capsules are great for trips and came in handy for my brother.

Slippery Elm has saved many people’s lives and brought them back to good health. My favorite story is on the Herbal Legacy website called Elijah, a story of hope and progress. Dr. Christopher’s well-known poultices for abscesses, boils and gangrene use Slippery Elm paste as a main ingredient. Slippery Elm is the herb that was used to heal the hip of a young pioneer boy when he received a musket blast at the Hauns Mill Massacre. His mother was instructed through the spirit how to heal him. He laid on his stomach for five weeks until he was entirely recovered, a flexible gristle having grown in place of the missing joint and socket.

Ginger helps to stomach pain, cramps and indigestion. Ginger protects while stimulating, treats constipation and diarrhea while relieving nausea, inhibits toxic bacteria while promoting friendly species of bacteria. Ginger has been found to work better than the popular over the counter drugs for motion sickness. I also use it for menstrual cramps and it is found in many herbal formulas. Dr. Christopher said, “Ginger is generally combined with herbs going into the abdominal area, because it is a carrier. Ginger is an herb which accentuates so many herbs.”

Two simple herbs made a happy vacation for my brother. You can purchase these herbs and others at Herbs First.
