Comparing Conventional Medicine to Natural Medicine

Dr Christopher's Formulas

Dr. Christopher taught his patients how to eat right and use herbs to in order to be healthy. I love that there is so much information about eating right and using natural medicine on the internet. We have been striving to eat right and using natural medicine for many years and my husband remarks to me how much healthier we are than many people that we know. He tells me how grateful he is that I take such good care of him! I say back to him, “thank you for cooperating”!

I have talked to quite a few people that are trying to get their family on track with eating wholesome foods and using herbs, but many are really struggling with this! The battle is real, but just make those changes little by little and you will get there!

The choice is: are we going to keep eating whatever we want, and use conventional medicine to only get worse and worse, or are we going to change our diet and use the herbs and essential oils to help us maintain optimum health??

Dr. Christopher often said, this is a do it yourself plan. Learn what to do and then do it!
Comparing Conventional Medicine to Natural Medicine

Main Focus of Conventional Medicine: Destroy, kill or cut out a disease or malfunctioning body part.

How Conventional Medicine uses Symptoms: Different methods are used to suppress or remove the symptoms. The symptom is thought of as a disease and is treated as such, never getting to the cause of why those symptoms are present.

Conventional Medicine Method: Attack, kill and remove disease using drugs, radiation or surgery. Alter or remove malfunctioning parts or organs such as mastectomy, hysterectomy, tonsillectomy, radiation, etc.

Products used in Conventional Medicine: Drugs made from chemicals, animal waste and toxic elements. Many side effects which starts the drug cycle of more and more medication to alleviate the symptoms.

Modalities used in Conventional Medicine: Surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, steroids, dialysis, colostomies, insulin, etc.

Emotions some people have that use Conventional Medicine: Negative attitude, coping, fear, anxiety, depression. The complete feeling that your life is in someone else's hands.

Many people that use Conventional Medicine: Feel that they are an unlucky victim that caught a disease. Feel helpless and want others to "fix" them. Total lack of control and responsibility for the predicament they find themselves in.

Main Focus of Natural Healing: To create a healthy person.

What we do with Symptoms in Natural Healing: Let our body guide us in the healing process by listening to the symptoms.

Natural Healing Method: Create a proper living environment so that the body can heal itself. This is accomplished through changes in diet, cleansing and nourishing with herbs, positive thinking and lifestyle changes.

Products used in Natural Healing: Wholesome foods such as fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, vegetable juices, herbs and essential oils. No side effects.

Modalities used in Natural Healing: Wholesome food program, cleansing and detoxification, exercise, hydrotherapy, emotional therapy and lifestyle changes.

Emotions people have that use Natural Healing: Positive attitude toward healing through following wholesome food programs, cleansing and nourishing. Control of your healing.

People that use Natural Healing: Recognize the fact that past habits created the level of health, and take responsibility of making the changes necessary to heal themselves. Being in control.

As you can see there is a big difference in how these medicines work. I  choose natural medicine and have always had great results with them. I don't want to have my body parts cut out or replaced, I want to keep what I have in good working condition!  It is my hope that this blog will help people realize their health is in their hands, and that our bodies can heal if we feed it what it needs.

At Herbs First we sell Dr. Christopher's, Western Botanicals and Garden Essence Oils and they are the best I have ever used. Pure and simple, they work. I hope that these products and this newsletter will help you on your road to continued good health. We don't just sell products, we know how to use them and we use them ourselves!

Lemongrass Essential Oil, so many uses and so affordable too!

Garden Essence Oils LemongrassGarden Essence Oils Lemongrass essential oil is used to detox lymph and cellulite and cleanse oily skin and hair. Lemongrass essential oil gives relief from stomach disorders, insomnia, respiratory disorders, fever, aches, infections, rheumatism and edema.  The defensive antioxidant activity of the lemongrass essential oil protects against antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

Here are some of the uses of Lemongrass Essential Oil.

Acne: Lemongrass is both astringent and antimicrobial which will help to resolve acne. Add one drop to a little coconut oil and dab on blemishes twice a day.

Athlete’s Foot:  Lemongrass essential oil can help fight fungal skin infections, use a drop of oil in a teaspoon of carrier oil and rub on feet several times a day.

Body aches: Lemongrass essential oil helps in alleviating the pain and discomfort caused by headaches and migraines due to its analgesic properties. The phytonutrients present in it improve the blood circulation and help in relieving spasms, muscle cramps, sprains, and back aches. It is valuable in treating sports wounds, including dislocations, internal injuries and bruises.

Cellular Health: Lemongrass possesses antioxidant qualities that help in protecting the body cells from the oxygen-derived free radicals. It also helps in the cleansing of blood and strengthens the spleen to discard the tarnished red blood cells. It supports the function of the thymus gland which helps to produce white blood cells. It helps in stimulating regeneration of cells. The folate and potassium content in the stem and leaves of lemongrass aids in DNA synthesis and promotes cell division.

Detoxification: Lemongrass essential oil helps in cleansing and flushing harmful toxic wastes out of the body, as a result of its diuretic properties. Detoxification helps in better regulation of various organs of the body, including the liver and kidney, while also helping to lower the levels of uric acid. The diuretic effect of lemongrass helps in increasing the quantity and frequency of urination, which helps in maintaining digestive health, eliminating accrued fats, and assisting in maintaining a clean system.

Edema: Lemongrass essential oil is effective in curing the condition of water retention or edema. It has a cleansing effect on lymphatic congestion and helps to soothe the swelling.

Fatigue: Mix a few drops of lemongrass oil with a teaspoon of coconut oil and massage into temples. This works wonders to give a natural energy boost.

Fever Reducer:  Lemongrass can help to fight infections that cause fevers and toxins. Add a few drops to carrier oil and apply to the back of neck, chest and the bottom of feet.

Headache Relief: Apply several drops of oil to temples at first sign of a headache.

Heartburn: Mix several drops of Lemongrass with coconut oil and rub over the throat and chest area for relief.

High Blood Pressure: Because lemongrass oil is a vasodilator it can help reduce blood pressure and clear plaque from the arteries.

Infections: Lemongrass essential oil works as an antiseptic, antimicrobial and anti-fungal, and is effective in treating infections such as ringworm, sores, Athlete’s Foot, candida, scabies, and urinary tract infections, by inhibiting the growth of pathogens.

Insomnia: The calming quality of lemongrass essential oil helps to relieve anxiety, irritability and is helpful in calming the muscles and nerves.  This can help improve the duration of sleep and the quality. Add a few drops of lemongrass essential oil to the bottom of feet before bed.

Mood Enhancement: The fresh and earthy scent of Lemongrass makes it a great addition to a diffuser. Lemongrass oil can boost confidence, mental health and help to keep depression at bay.

Muscle Relaxant: Make a lemongrass massage oil that will work to reduce inflammation and bring relief to sore muscles.  Add 6 drops of lemongrass essential oil to one ounce of carrier oil and massage gently into affected areas.

Nervous System: Lemongrass essential oil is a nervine and has been proven to be an excellent tonic for the nervous system. It stimulates the mind and helps in combating convulsions, nervousness, vertigo and various neuronal disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. It is used in therapeutic baths, which assist in calming the nerves and help in alleviating the symptoms of anxiety and fatigue caused by stress.

Respiratory Disorder: Lemongrass essential oil is widely used in Ayurvedic medicine for its healing effects in treating coughs and colds. Helps in providing relief from nasal blockages, flu and other respiratory disorders such as bronchial asthma.

Rheumatism: Lemongrass is effective in relieving the pain and discomfort caused by rheumatism. It can be applied topically on both lumbago and sprains and helps in relieving neuralgia and other painful conditions.

Skin Care: Lemongrass essential oil has been treasured as a skin tonic and makes an effective cleanser for oily or acne-prone skin, due to its astringent and antiseptic qualities. It helps in strengthening the skin tissues and toning up the pores while also sterilizing them. Always use a carrier oil with Lemongrass.

Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs as a result of compression of the median nerve, which runs from the forearm through a passageway in the wrist (carpal tunnel) to the hand. Citrus Essential Oils prevent cancer and more!

Citrus essential oils have been used for centuries for relief from colds and flu. These oils have also been used for cleansing, purification, digestion, skin complaints, disinfecting and so on.

Citrus essential oils contain an interesting array of natural phytochemicals that have anti-cancer properties. Scientists have been studying the phytochemicals found in citrus essential oils for decades.

At first it was thought that the anti-cancer activity of citrus essential oil was mainly due to the high levels of antioxidants they contained. Closer inspection found that it had mainly to do with one special phytochemical found in citrus known as limonene. There are now over 200 research studies on limonene discussing its anti-cancer benefits.

Limonene Content in Citrus Essential Oils

Grapefruit essential oil: 88-95% limonene
Lemon essential oil: 59-73% limonene
Lime essential oil: 50-60% limonene
Orange essential oil: 85-96% limonene
Tangerine essential oil: 85-93% limonene

Grapefruit Essenital Oil    Put a drop or two of grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange, or tangerine essential oil into your water to encourage the elimination of wastes and toxins as well as a cancer prevention. The limonene content stimulates white blood cell production, improves the body’s ability to combat infection, and helps to detoxify the liver. *

Feeling stressed or depressed? Just open the lid of your favorite citrus essential oil and breathe it in. Grapefruit is uplifting and helps with depression, increases self-esteem and bolsters confidence. Lemon calms nervousness. Lime is helpful for apathy, anxiety, nervousness, depression, Lemon Essential Oilslistlessness and refreshes tired mind. Orange helps to balance the emotions, either relaxing or stimulating as needed. Tangerine refreshes and brings clarity of thought.

My son carried around a bottle of lemon essential oil in his pocket when he was in junior high school. It was a great way for him to treat himself using something that he wouldn’t get in trouble for bringing to school. I’m sure other kids benefited every time he took it out to smell it.

Orange Essenital Oil    A breast cancer coach recommends: To improve breast health I recommend massaging the breasts daily using a combination of a favorite citrus essential oil with either frankincense, lavender, or sandalwood. A few drops of each mixed with a carrier oil is sufficient.*

Citrus Essential Oils are very affordable and easy to use. They are my favorites of any of the oils and have many more properties besides the ones we have talked about here. If you haven’t used essential oils yet, order a few to try. It won’t take long for you to get hooked on these amazing natural healing oils.

Essential Oils For Seasonal Allergies

My seasonal allergies have been much better over the years but the worst time for me has always been the end of April and into May when all those lovely Lilac bushes are blooming. Unfortunately someone brought a big bouquet of lilacs to church and I was around them for more than three hours. I was doing fine on Sunday but the next day my eyes were really suffering from the itchies and nothing was calming them down.

Garden Essence Oils Peppermint    I happened to be looking on my facebook page and my niece mentioned that she was having seasonal allergy problems and was using equal parts of lemon, lavender  and peppermint essential oils. I had never heard about using oils for allergies, so I looked it up and it looked like it would work. I got out an atomizer bottle and mixed the three oils in it and got the diffuser going. I had it coming on every ten minutes the first day and I would go in and get my nose right over it and breathe it in. After a couple of hours the itchiness in my eyes calmed right down.

Garden Essence OIls Lavender    I have kept the diffuser going for 5 minutes every 20 minutes for the past week and have not had a flare up. I have been amazed to have no allergy problems when I have left my home. I really like the smell of the three oils together, when normally lavender is not one I enjoy. These three essential oils help clear the breathing, calm the inflammatory response and boosts the immune system. I am sold on the effectiveness of using essential oils to fight off allergy symptoms. Basil, Eucalyptus and Tea Tree oil are also oils that work well for allergies.

Advanced Aromatherapy diffuser    I love the Advanced Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffuser. I use the oils full strength in the diffuser to get the most medicinal value out of them. I put 30 drops of each of the three oils into the atomizer bottle over a week ago and it is still using them running 24 hours a day.
