Many people are not aware that Dr. Christopher’s Formulas are available in
bulk.
We sell quite a bit of the bulk formulas and often people will email
saying, “I just bought _____ formula, what do I do with it?” It is
always best to have a plan when you buy any bulk herbs.
Powdered herbs can be capsulized, mixed into juice or water, or made
into a poultice. 1/2 tsp. is about equal to two ‘0’ sized capsules.
Some formulas taste ok in juice, but many are strong and people find
them hard to get down. Capsulizing would be the thing to do if 
you can’t handle
the taste of herbs. A 16 oz. bag of powdered herbs will make 1500 ‘0’
sized capsules, which is equal to 15 bottles and is the common size in
majority of the Christopher products. If you have a hard time with the
smaller capsules the 16 oz. bag will make 1000 ‘00’ sized capsules. We sell empty capsules as well as a
handy capsulizing machine. Be sure to
order the capsules that fit the machine
you have or are going to buy, as they are not interchangeable.Cut herbs are used to make extracts, syrups, teas, ointments and oils. I make my own BF&C oil/ointment using coconut oil as the base because I have problems with the ointments that have bees wax in them. Coconut oil is healing in itself, so making BF&C ointment (Complete Tissue & Bone Formula) with it makes it even that much better! The downside is that it is liquid over 76 degrees, so we have to remember to be careful not to spill when we open the jar it in the warmer weather.
It is easy to make the
ointments, oils, extracts and syrups. I am making BF& C Ointent
here, and Dr. Christopher's cut BF&C formula
16 oz. bag fills a little less than half of this gallon bottle. Rule of
thumb is to fill the bottle 1/3 to 1/2 with herbs and then fill the
rest of the bottle with oil. I was able to use about 3 1/2 quarts of
coconut oil and then I put it into my dehydrator at 105 degrees. I will
stir it about three times a day and keep it heated for about 48 hours.
You can go anywhere from 12 to 48 hours. I do the maximum to
extract everything I can out of the herbs. If I lived in a warm climate
I would just leave it outside for a few days, but since we are in Utah
and the nights are below 76 degrees I find it best to use my old
dehydrator. This amount of ointment will last my family about three
years using it liberally. I strained it after it cooled a bit and bottled it into two jars. I keep it in my basement which is cooler. Coconut has a long shelf life and I have
never had a batch of my home-made BF&C ointment go rancid.
BF&C cut
is commonly used to make a fomentation, which is a concentrated tea
that is soaked in a flannel cloth and wrapped onto the area that needs
healing. Some people opt to use the ointment or oil vs going through
