Essential Oils are Healing

Spice Essential oils are uplifting and stimulating, improving circulation and digestion. As a circulatory stimulant they reduce bruising. They detoxify organs and muscle tissues, and are antispasmodic and pain relieving. As a digestive stimulant, they aid in indigestion, nausea and constipation. Geranium, Lavender, and Ylang Ylang are also flower essential oils.

Citrus Essential Oils are antiseptic and excellent for infections, which range from urinary tract to respiratory illness such as colds, flu, bronchitis and  pneumonia. Citrus oils are relaxing and relieve stress and can be used by children and pregnant women. They are cleansing oils, detoxifying the body and reducing weight, while dealing with cellulite as well. They have a cleansing effect on the digestive system and its organs. Good for skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis and blend well with tree oils for these conditions.
Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Mandarin, Orange and Tangerine are citrus essential oils.

Tree Essential Oils are high in antifungal, antiseptic, antiviral properties and are ideal for fungal, viral and infection related conditions. From athlete’s foot, candida, ringworm to respiratory infections such as the common cold, influenza and pneumonia. Tree oils are excellent in treating any infection involving other systems of the body such as cystitis or nephritis in the urinary system; meningitis in the nervous system; colitis or pancreatitis in the digestive system. They are good at getting stagnant things moving such as constipation, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, mucus. Good for chronic and acute allergy related conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, hayfever, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, etc. They are mild pain relievers and blend well with spice oils which are pain relievers as well. Cajeput, Camphor, Cassia, Cedarwood, Cinnamon, Clove, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Niaouli, Petitgrain, Pine, Rosewood, Sandalwood and Tea Tree are tree essential oils.

Gum Oils come from trees and have the same properties as tree oils being antifungal, antiseptic, antiviral. They are cell rejuvenators and are quite beneficial in the treatment of wrinkles for mature skins. Gum oils blend well with tree and citrus oils in the treatment of respiratory and skin infections or inflammation. Benzoin, Frankincense and Myrrh are gum oils.

Grass Oils are insect repellents and tone the skin. These oils blend well with citrus and flower oils to aid in healing stretch marks. They are relaxing, soothing and toning. Citronella, Lemongrass and Palmarosa are grass oils.

Oils for Cold and Flu Season

   

    We have had a lot of people over in the past few weeks for family gatherings. Many times people don’t like to miss out on these events and they come with sniffles and other ailments. We don’t want to share their illness, so we always keep our diffuser running. Garden Essence Oils for Pain Relief

    I like to have different remedies on hand because you never know when you are going to need them. A few weeks ago I bumped my thumb, and the joint between the thumb and wrist really started bothering me.  I woke up one day and my left hand was barely functional due to the pain in that joint. The least little movement was so bad I had to find something to stop the pain right now!

     I sorted through my growing pile of Garden Essence Oils to see what I had on hand that might work. I found that I had two oil blends that would be good, so I put 5 drops of each together in a little roller bottle with fractionated coconut oil as the base. I applied it and was amazed at how quickly the pain went away. I applied the oil often on the first day and a couple times a day the next few days after. It has been a few weeks now and there is absolutely no pain in that joint. Here is what I used:

    No-Mo-Pain: Birch, Helichrysum, Clove and Peppermint. Birch has aspirin-like properties and the other oils are powerful anti-inflammatories. This blend helps to reduce pain, headaches, swelling, and stimulates the area and is used for quicker healing.
   
    Pain Anti-inflammatory: Spruce, Black Pepper, Hyssop, Peppermint, Helichrysum.  This blend helps to calm nerves and soothe muscles and joints.

    These Garden Essence Oil blends worked very well together. The past few days I have been using it on a spot on my back with the same great results.  I will definitely keep a roller bottle with these two in it and use it where I feel pain. A quick and easy way to treat an area for immediate relief!

Note that for the "little" roller bottle, which is 10 ml in size use a total of 10 drops essential oil filled with carrier oil. For the larger 1 oz. roller bottle use a total of 30 drops of essential oil of choice.

   We appreciate our customers and we love to hear from you. At Herbs First we carry natural products that work. Advanced Therapy Essential Oil Diffuser

    Diffusers are a great way to treat a room full of people with essential oils without having to slather it on them.  The Advanced Therapy Essential Oil Diffuser has a timer to adjust how long to diffuse as well as how long in-between, and how much oil to diffuse.  I have mine set to run for 1 minute every 5 minutes, a bottle of oil lasts about a month at this setting, I most often will cut it 50/50 with fractionated coconut oil and get excellent results.

Do it yourself - Bug Repellant Spray and Sunburn Relief Spray

    Many times we have been at outdoor events and gotten the over spray from people using bug repellant.  I find that so inconsiderate!  You would think they would do it before they came, but no, time after time people are spraying their obnoxious sprays all over everyone.  Commercial sprays smell nasty and are not healthy to inhale, much less have soaking into your skin.

    It is easy to make your own Deet free - chemical free bug repellant. There are two things you need to make a great bug repellant. 
   

Bug Repellant

    4 oz. Vodka
    1 teaspoon Garden Essence Essential Oils Pest-Away with Catnip (5 ml.)

Put Vodka and Pest Away with Catnip in 4 oz. spray bottle and shake.  Spray on exposed skin and in hair several times a day to keep the bugs away. 

Sunburn Relief Spray

    2 oz. Aloe Vera Gel
    2 oz. Distilled Water
    15 drops Garden Essence Lavender Essential Oil
    15 drops Garden Essence Tea Tree Essential Oil
    10 drops Garden Essence Peppermint Essential Oil
   
Mix all ingredients in a 4 oz. glass spray bottle.  Spray liberally as often as desired on sunburned skin.  Keep the left over solution in the refrigerator.

    As a natural sunscreen I like to use Coconut Oil, I put it on several times throughout the day.  Sometimes I slightly burn, so I just put more coconut oil on and by morning it has turned into a tan.  Complete Tissue and Bone Ointment is a great sunburn oil, if you don't mind being oily! Ravintsara oil treats Shingles as well as Sinus Congestion

A customer called a few weeks ago asking me about the Ravintsara essential oil that we carry.  She hadn’t been able to find it anywhere, and when she talked to other stores about it they told her that Ravensara and Ravintsara are the same thing.  Not so.  Here is what our website teaches about these wonderful oils.

    Ravintsara reduces pain and headaches, is antiviral, and effectively used for shingles and herpes zoster.  For shingles, add Melissa and Ravintsara to St. John’s Wort oil and apply liberally several times daily. Is decongesting, anti-inflammatory, helps clear sinuses, chronic allergies. It is an immunostimulant and good for all respiratory concerns. Excellent for colds and flu.

    Ravensara helps the respiratory and cardiovascular systems to harmonize. Lymph drainage is facilitated and is also a beneficial oil for joint pain, digestion and water retention.

    There are some similarities in these oils, but as you can see, Ravintsara is very effective for shingles and herpes zoster.  I talked to my mother-in-law a few weeks ago and she mentioned that she thought she might have shingles.  Shingles is caused by the herpes zoster virus and appears as a painful rash as well as headaches and other symptoms. The rash can occur anywhere on the body and most often appears as a stripe of blisters that wraps around the persons torso.  The pain and itching can be quite distracting.

    I recalled the conversation with my customer and bought a bottle of the Ravintsara. I filled a roller bottle with fractionated coconut oil and put in 10 drops of the Ravintsara and gave it to my mother-in-law. Several days later she remarked that it worked really well for the pain and itching.  After rereading the instructions next time I would add the Melissa to it as well.  I’m not sure where the St. John’s Wort oil can be found.  I’m happy my mother-in-law was helped by this little oil and will look forward to using it for sinus issues.

To stitch or not to stitch....that is the question.

We have some great little stocking stuffers when it comes to Essential Oils and Western Botanicals Formulas. Many people have come to realize that the Garden Essence Essential Oils are of the same quality as the network marketed brands they have been using for about 1/3 of the price and save even more with the extra sale.  I love Western Botanicals Essential Skin Care which is a great hand and body lotion.  I would love to have just about any of Western Botanicals Formulas in my stocking!  Best pricing is now, they are bound to go up the first of the year.
    I have to say that I am less than satisfied at how my hand healed with the stitches. I really wonder at this point if the result would have been much different if I had handled it myself.  I noticed the same problem years ago when my sons arm got cut when friend skied into him. After the stitches were out the cut popped back open. Stitches have to come out after a week, otherwise the skin grows through the stitches and getting them out would be a problem.  This cut was in such a tricky spot I felt I was better off getting them.  Once the stitches were out, the cut popped open.  Oh well, live and learn!

    This past week I was using the Complete Tissue & Bone Ointment on the cut as well as taking the capsules.  After a few days I was wondering why it still was hurting so much.  Then I realized that the capsules were tasting a bit like Immucalm.  These are two of the formulas that I often capsulize myself and rebottle in their original bottles.  I looked at the capsules and found that indeed they were Immucalm incorrectly put in a Complete Tissue and Bone bottle by me!  I got out another bottle of Complete Tissue & Bone capsules and looked at them closely and noted that they were the right ones.  Not long after taking them the pain was much less and I was happy that they were doing their job. The healing would have been better had I been taking the right formula for the first three days.

Essential Oils make great flavoring for water

An essential oil is a liquid that is generally distilled (most frequently by steam or water) from the leaves, stems, flowers, bark, roots, or other elements of a plant. Essential oils, are not oily-feeling at all. Pure, unadulterated essential oils are translucent and range in color from clear to deep blue. Essential oils contain the true essence of the plant it was derived from and are highly concentrated. While a very few essential oils, such as lavender and tea tree, are safe to apply directly to the skin, most are so concentrated that they must be diluted with 'carrier oils such as sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil, grapeseed oil and then apply this blend to the skin for absorption. Essential oils have been used for centuries in many cultures for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits.

One way that I like to use the oils is to flavor water. My favorite is Grapefruit, just a drop or two and you have the most amazing tasting calorie free water.
